Getting Started with Quick PDF Tools

Note: this is the getting started guide for the free version of Quick PDF Tools.

  • 1. Installing Quick PDF Tools
  • To install Quick PDF Tools you will first need to click on the download button below and save the executable file to a location on your computer.

    Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit)

    After the download process has finished, double-click on the quick_pdf_tools.exe file and the installation process will begin.

  • 2. How to use Quick PDF Tools
  • Quick PDF Tools is accessible from the context-menu (otherwise known as the shell menu) in Windows Explorer. Right-click on a PDF and select the 'Quick PDF Tools' menu item to see a list of all the available features.

    Unlike other applications where you have to choose the feature you want to use first and then choose the PDFs you want to work with, Quick PDF Tools lets you choose the PDFs first and then choose which action you wish to perform.

    To use Quick PDF Tools right-click on the file you wish to edit and then choose the action you wish to perform from the Quick PDF Tools menu.

  • 3. View PDF Preview
  • Grab yourself a quick preview of any PDF without having to fire up your PDF viewer (Adobe Reader or otherwise). Would you believe on a basic Intel Centrino Duo, it's timed to load a PDF at sub 00.22 seconds. Nah, me neither, we made that up. Let's just say it's very fast.

  • 4. Edit a PDF files properties
  • Editing the properties (or metadata) of PDF files is easy using Quick PDF Tools. Simply right-click on a PDF and select 'Quick PDF Tools > Edit > Document Properties > Description' from the Windows Explorer context-menu.

    A window will open up that allows you to directly edit the properties for PDF files without having to open the PDF. Edit the Title, Author, Subject and Keywords with ease.

  • 5. Edit a PDF files initial view
  • When you click on the Quick PDF Tools > Edit > Document Properties > Initial View option a window will open up that allows you to directly edit the initial view for the selected PDF without having to open the PDF.

  • 6. Add an open password to a PDF
  • Adding an open password to a PDF is simple. Just right-click on a PDF and select 'Quick PDF Tools > Security > Add open password' and type in the password you wish to use. The next time you or someon else tries to open the PDF they will be prompted to enter the necessary password.

  • 7. Remove an open password to a PDF
  • To remove an open password from a PDF simply right-click on the PDF and select 'Quick PDF Tools > Security > Remove open password' from the Windows Explorer context-menu. You will then be prompted to enter the open password one last time. If you enter the correct open password then the open password will be removed from the PDF.

  • 8. Merge selected PDF files
  • Merging multiple PDF files together is easy. Simply right-click on two or more PDFs and select 'Quick PDF Tools > Combine > Combine selected files' from the Windows Explorer context-menu. A window will then open that lists the PDFs you have selected. Just choose the order in which you want the PDF files to be merged and click OK.

  • 9. Convert an image to PDF
  • To convert an image to PDF right-click on the image and select 'Quick PDF Tools > Convert> Image to PDF' from the Windows Explorer context-menu. The image will instantly be converted to PDF and the resulting file will be placed in the same directory that the image is located in. Support image file types are BMP, TIFF, JPEG, PNG, GIF, WMF and EMF.

  • 10. Convert PDF to image(s)
  • To convert an PDF to a collection of images right-click on the image and select 'Quick PDF Tools > Convert> PDF to Image' from the Windows Explorer context-menu. Each page of the PDF will be converted to a separate JPEG file. These JPG files will be stored in a folder with the same name as the source file.

  • 11. Convert an image to text
  • To convert a PDF to text right-click on the image and select 'Quick PDF Tools > Convert> PDF to Text' from the Windows Explorer context-menu. The PDF will be converted to text and the resulting file will be stored as a text file (.txt) in the same folder.

  • 12. Remove all bookmarks from a PDF
  • To remove all bookmarks from a PDF right-click on the PDF and select 'Quick PDF Tools > Edit > Bookmarks > Remove all bookmarks' from the Windows Explorer context-menu.
